Plate
Often overlooked by those desiring the prestige of sterling, silver plate, either Old Sheffield "Fused" plate (1755-1835) or the more readily available electroplate (1835-present) represents excellent value, often for identical or better quality than its sterling silver counterpart. This is especially true of large heavy items like Wine Coolers, Soup Tureens, Epergnes, and Entree Dishes where the quality and method of manufacture is identical, but the price is in the hundreds rather than the tens of thousands!
