A French Silver Punch Ladle by ChristofleSOLD
This Victorian period punch ladle is very early Christofle silver- I have tried my best to photograph the marks accurately, but alas they are tiny and I have not done a very good job. The Christofle silver mark, in a Lozenge, is evident, as is the name "Christofle" in an oblong punch.
The ladle measures 30cm, has a beautifully hand fluted bowl, and elegant turned wood handle. I believe it to be ebony. The condition of the ladle is excellent. The only fault is a small crack near the hallmark, as photographed, which happened when the piece was assayed- this was often the case with small pieces and an overzealous hammerman! The integrity of the piece is not effected and this crack is so tiny it is not noticeable except when one inspects the mark carefully.
This is a typical object in English silver, but it is very unusual to find an example in French Silver.
