A 19th Century silver tray c1820: Russian? Austrian?SOLD

This beautiful silver tray is of wonderful shaped form, and has highly unusual spiral handles.

It is of wonderful craftsmanship, hand raised, and has a lovely antique patination. The handles really are unique- I have never seen ones quite like this before. The tray tests silver and clearly has a good deal of age. From style and method of manufacture I would say it is early 19th century, certainly no later than 1860, and of plain Empire/Regency style.

From style I would guess it is Russian, although it could also be Austrian/Austro-Hungarian. It is totally unmarked, but tests solid silver. In the centre is a magnificent plaque, finely engraved with a family coat of arms. I imagine this has been placed over an older engraving, or perhaps another engraving was removed before this new one was put on.

The tray measures XX and weighs 51oz.

The tray is in excellent condition. There are a number of tiny dings and dents to the surface which I have tried to picture here. These could be carefully and professionally removed if the purchaser so desired. Please contact me for a quote.
