18th Century English Silver Filigree Counter Box: GeorgianSOLD

This beautiful little Georgian counter box was made in England and is of a type generally found in the mid to latter part of the 18th century.

As you can see it has a beautiful little enamel plaque on the top, which depicts a playing card! Sadly it is broken, which is almost always the case when you are lucky enough to find these rare little boxes. A counter box is, of course, intended for gaming counters when playing cards- gambling was a common passtime in the 18th century, and caused many a scandal!

English filigree work is very rare, and this is a beautiful example as you can see.

This charming little box is 4cm tall by 3cm diameter.

As you can see the enamel plaque is broken and repaired, but otherwise the box is in super condition considering the age.

A beautiful little Collectable box.

Type: Boxes
Function: gaming
