18th or 19th Century Finnish silver tumbler cup TurkuSOLD
This little tumbler cup was made in the late 18th to the mid 19th century in Turku, Finland.
Of a typical Scandinavian form, this lovely little tumbler cup has neoclassical influenced wrigglework swags, which are typical of its kind. It bears the town mark for Turku, struck twice, and a makers mark three times. There is no Finnish or Swedish fineness mark, and no date letter. The Finnish date letters begun in 1810, and so there is a possibility this is predates their introduction. Previously to that Finland was under Swedish rule. I have had these tumbler cups dating anywhere from 1780 till 1845 in Norwegian and Finnish silver- it was a design which stayed in vogue for a long time!
It measures approximately 6cm in diameter and stands 3cm. The weight is 19g.
Excellent condition with no damage or repair.
