A Sterling Arts and Crafts Silver Kitchen PepperSOLD
This highly unusual Sterling Silver kitchen pepper is a wonderful example of late Arts and Crafts silver. It is totally unmarked, but certainly English Sterling Silver, and bears a rather touching engraving underneath. It reads "A labour of Love from Mother and Dad to Irene and Fred, 1932".
One can only presume that "Mother or Dad" was a silversmith! This kitchen pepper pot is certainly not the work of an amateur, being extremely well made. Look particularly at the attachment of the handle, and quality of piercing on the lid. One might also assume that it was given to a child and their spouse, perhaps as a very personal wedding gift.
This leaves us with the tantalising possibility that the silversmith in question was someone of note! The quality of the pepper certainly indicates a very skilled craftsman, and not simply a proficient one. Who could it be!?
