A Rare Arts & Crafts Silver Box designed by Benjamin CreswickSOLD

This Rare Arts and Crafts Silver Box was made by Heath and Middleton, and designed by Benjamin Creswick. It is of highly idiosyncratic design and construction, hand beaten from sheet sterling silver, planished and chased with tree of life designs each end. The cover depicts three Cornish fishermen.

The box is really very early, for Arts and Crafts silver, hallmarked for 1900. Creswick is an extremely important figure within the Arts and Crafts movement. Originally trained as a sculptor under the encouragement of John Ruskin, he became a member of the Century Guild in 1886. Pieces of fully attributed silver by him are very rare indeed.

The condition of this Arts and Crafts Silver box is very good. The fisherman are somewhat worn and a tad overpolished, but still catch the light beautifully. The box is Sterling silver and has a beautiful lustre and patination.

A fine Arts and Crafts silver box, and a very rare example of Benjamin Creswick silver.
