An Early 18th Century German Silver Bougie Box/ Wax JackSOLD
This unusual solid silver object is an Early German Silver Bougie Box, or candle holder. It is designed to hold a coil of candle, in the same manner as a silver wax jack, the end of which protrudes from the top, and a flame is lit. It Nuremberg Silver.
The German Silver Bougie Box is of typical form for this period in Germany and was made in Nuremberg circa 1710. The decoration is quite typical of European silver of the early 18th century, but the form of this object is very typically German.
The condition is very good, although there is evidence of a small repair at the top. The makers mark is indestinguishable.
