A Georgian Old Sheffield Plate Argyle SOLD

This Old Sheffield Plate Argyle (also sometimes spelt Argyll) is a wonderful piece of antique silverware. It dates to approximately 1775-1780, and is in superb condition. An Argyle is, in fact, a gravy pot designed to keep the contents warm. This example is double skinned, and one fills the skin with hot water to insulate the gravy via a flap on the handle.

The Old Sheffield Plate Argyle is in lovely condition, visible seam at the back, and just a tiny amount of bleeding on the edges and high points. It is replete with original fruitwood handle.

An excellent example of an Old Sheffield Plate Argyle in stunning condition.

Type: Argyll
Function: Dining
Country: England
