A First Period Old Sheffield Plate Sweetmeat Basket
This beautiful little Old Sheffield Plate sweetmeat basket was made in Sheffield circa 1770. It is in good condition with an attractive amount of bleeding. There are a few dents on the inside of the basket as pictured, but no splits or cracks, as is often the case with these rare little Old Sheffield Plate baskets when one is lucky enough to find them of this period.
Originally this Old Sheffield Plate basket was used for sweets, small treats and desserts- the old term for these delicacies was "sweetmeats".
A fine piece of rare and early Old Sheffield Plate of the First Period.
