A Georgian Old Sheffield Plate Wine FunnelSOLD

This Old Sheffield Plate wine funnel was made circa 1815. It is designed to filter sediment from good wine, and to assist in decanting a bottle of wine by directing the flow against the side of the decanter, thus preventing bruising, or excess air.

This particular Old Sheffield Plate wine funnel is an excellent example of Georgian fused plate- a complicated object to make, and a testament to the skill of the Old Sheffield Plate manufacturers. The bowl of the Georgian wine funnel is gilded, and the piece still has its retaining ring- many of these were lost or disposed of.

The condition of this Old Sheffield Plate wine funnel is very good. There is plate loss to the spout and wear to the borders, but as you can see it is still in good order and usable condition.
