A Hester Bateman Silver Georgian Cowrie Shell Snuff BoxSOLD

This Hester Bateman snuff box is extremely rare. It is a Georgian silver Cowrie Shell snuff box, made circa 1780. Hester Bateman was the "Queen of English silver", working in the 1770's and 1780's. On inheriting the business of her husband she became one of the most prolific silversmiths of the late 18th century.

Her work is not rare, but very sought after by collectors of Female silversmiths. However, a Cowrie Shell snuff box by Hester is extremely rare, and this is a beautiful example. A similar example is illustrated in David S Shure's book entitled "Hester Bateman". That example is makers mark only as is this one.

Type: Boxes
Function: snuff related
