An Old Sheffield Plate SalverSOLD

This Old Sheffield Plate salver was made circa 1828 and is of superb quality.

It was owned by John W. S. Miller of Stewartfield County Roxburgh (1789-1863) and his wife Mary, daughter of Nicholas Sutherland (d. 1875) who he married in 1828.  He was the third son of Sir William Miller 3rd Baronet of Glenlee.
Therefore the arms are of Miller of Stewartfield impaling Sutherland.

It large, measuring 17” across, and in lovely condition. There is a little copper showing on the high points, but this is desirable as it shows that the object has not ever been re-plated, but is the original plate.

The quality of engraving, border and design are all excellent, and this is a superb example of late Regency Old Sheffield. It is in excellent condition with no damage or repair.

Type: Salver
Country: England
