A Modernist Table Center Piece by Gerald BenneySOLD
This magnificent Gerald Benney table centrepiece was made in London and is dated for 1966.
A major innovation to silver decoration at this time was Benney’s use of a textured bark-like finish, his signature style (As shown). It has been said that his son Jonathon used one of his father’s planishing hammers to ‘mend’ his bicycle and returned the hammer to the workbench. When Gerald next used the hammer it had been so damaged that it left an impression on the metal. Pleased with the result, he produced beakers and goblets to test his invention. Not only did texturing work technically and aesthetically, it also became a valued and unique expression of his skill.
This is in excellent condition with no damage or repair and anyone would love to find this under their Christmas tree.
The table piece weighs 605g and measures 12cm in length, 12cm in width and 9cm tall.
